The shooting occurred at a home not far from the intersection of The Plaza and Milton Road. Officers questioned two people who were found inside the house during the standoff. CMPD said Tuesday those two people have not been charged with anything at this time.

He said there was no indication of any friendly fire. "The suspect had the upper advantage to the officers," Jenning said. "I do know that they were immediately met with gunfire," Johnny Jennings, the CMPD police chief, said Tuesday. "There's indication that the suspect saw them coming to the house prior to them getting to the front door." The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction identified Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott as two of the other killed officers.

Bissell Campus, where CCDS students in grades 5–8 attend classes, underwent extensive renovations in 2009. The 23,000-square-foot (2,100 m2) Dowd Science Building was completed, which added eight science lecture/lab classrooms and two general purpose classrooms. The old science building was renovated to create six foreign language classrooms.

In the boys’ events, Charlotte Latin set four meet records, with Providence Day and Charlotte Country Day each breaking two more marks. Charlotte Country Day ended Cary Academy’s seven-year reign as the girls’ state swimming champion Tuesday amid a record-shattering performance. Our Middle School campus features four designated fields for practices and competitions for field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, softball, and football. The baseball and softball diamonds both feature batting cage areas, and the football/soccer field is ringed by a four-lane track. Basketball and volleyball programs practice and compete in the designated gym, which provides ample spectator seating and includes a sports medicine facility.
Hoover was shot in his upper torso but is expected to make a full recovery, according to police. CMPD announced that Officer Joshua Eyer was shot in the line of duty Monday afternoon after assisting other officers with the apprehension of a suspect. Eyer was a six-year veteran and a member of the 178th Recruit Class. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and one Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer were killed Monday after being met with “active gunfire” from a suspect at an east Charlotte home. A total of nine law enforcement officers were hurt, including three CMPD officers, a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force member, and one CMPD who suffered a broken foot during the incident. “Earlier today, four brave law enforcement officers - including a Deputy U.S. Marshal - were killed in the line of duty. They are heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, rushing into harm’s way to protect us.
